We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievements of our former student, Lyra Fletcher, who is making waves in the world of STEM! Lyra, now a student at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Mechatronics-Mechanical Engineering, was recognized as a Schulich Leader in 2022 and continues to excel in her field.

During her time at our school, Lyra demonstrated an early passion for science and engineering, qualities that have clearly carried her through to her current successes. From dismantling old electronics to uncover how they worked, to excelling at our school’s science fair, Lyra’s curiosity and determination have always set her apart.

At UBC, Lyra is deeply involved in campus life. She is the external vice president of the UBC Dance Club, where she competes in ballroom dancing, and she plays a crucial role on the UBC Thunderbikes design team, helping to engineer and manufacture components for electric motorcycles. Her aspirations reach even further—after graduation, she hopes to launch her own biotech company to develop robotic technologies that improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and illnesses.

Lyra’s journey is an inspiration to all of our current students, especially young women considering a future in STEM. Her advice to aspiring scientists and engineers is simple but powerful: “Learn to feel empowered when someone tells you you can’t do it, and then do it anyway.”

We are so proud to see how our school played a role in nurturing Lyra’s passion for STEM, and we hope her story encourages our current students to dream big and aim high. With our annual Science Fair coming up on February 27, we encourage all students to channel their inner curiosity and innovation—who knows, you might be the next Lyra Fletcher!
